Fillite is a excellent lightweight filler of tiny hollow microspheres. Ideal for producing lightweight resin casts, the resin dramatically increases in volume when mixed with Fillite and thus reduces the weight and heat generated in large resin castings. It is also easier to sand down than talc when used in resin.
We have also supplied Fillite to the film industry to produce dust and smoke effects. As it is very lightweight it floats and swirls around very well with air movement.
Fillite is a hard, inert, hollow silicate sphere, primarily used to reduce the weight of resins, rubbers and cement, etc, but also imparts further benefits in many situations. Advantages include; increased filler loadings, better flow characteristics, less shrinkage and warping, reduced water absorption, improved flame retardance and improved chemical resistance.
